With a tonne of exciting stuff on the horizon, 2018 promises to be a huge year for Pompey hell-raisers Seething Akira. We sat down with vocalist and button presser in chief Charlie Bowes to discuss new music, dream tours and the experience of taking their brand of electronic noise to Bloodstock Festival…
For the uninitiated, who are Seething Akira?
Well hello Atom Smasher! We’re Seething Akira, an electro, punk band from Portsmouth, UK.
Your sound is pretty hard to pin down. How would you describe yourselves to anyone who’s never heard of you before?
Man, always a tough question, but… I like to think elements of Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys and The Prodigy.
You’ve been working on your new record for a while now. How is it all coming together?
Man, it’s so close! It’s been way too long, but we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the three year tunnel.
What can we expect from the album when it drops?
I think more diversity than probably expected. Don’t get me wrong, we have the party bangers most associate with us, but maybe a few you wouldn’t expect style wise. All in all we’ve just expressed ourselves!
You recently put out a video for single ‘I Am the Devil’. What’s the reaction been to that so far?
It’s been great. It literally dropped two days ago and so far the response has been fantastic!
Do you have any tour plans for the coming months?
We’re planning on touring the album early part of this year, maybe on our own, maybe with another band…. any good booking agents out there?
You played Bloodstock for the first time last year – what was it like to play such a prestigious festival?
Man, that really was incredible. We were dubious whether the crowd would like our sound… turns out we shouldn’t have worried, it went off! Thanks again to all who came to see us!
You’ve had a few line-up changes over the years. How difficult has it been to not only find someone who not only has the right level of skill to join the band, but also gels with the rest of the guys as well?
The toughest part of being in a band is finding the right, committed people that are willing to work and sacrifice their time. Saying that, we have a fantastic core right now, so we’re happy!
Who would you say are your biggest influences, either individually or as a band?
It’s so varied! Slipknot, Enter Shikari, Linkin Park, Jimmy Hendrix, POD… the list really does go on.
In an ideal world, who would you most like to tour with?
Anyone from X-Factor, failing that… Korn.
What do you most want to achieve in 2018?
A successful debut album, some more festivals and a UK/EU tour.
Time to wrap this up – describe Seething Akira in 3 words…
SWEATY. NOISY. DIRTY.
