Hundred Year Old Man’s latest EP ‘Rei’ which is due out next month has been on a continuous loop since we got hold of it last week.
We caught up with Paul and asked him what albums have stood out this year and here is his Top 10 Releases Of 2017 in no particular order.
Code Orange – Forever
Code Orange are a band that I managed to completely miss until this album came out. At that point they hit me like a ton of bricks and wormed their way into regular rotation since.
Comeback Kid – Outsider
Classic Comeback Kid releasing one of the tightest hardcore albums I’ve heard in years. There’s a reason this band are one of the leaders of the hardcore scene
Converge – The Dusk In Us
It’s converge. It’s new. It’s automatically one of the best albums released this year. As a band who are basically the benchmark for heaviness, they keep raising the bar each time they release something and they’ve done it again here
Employed to Serve – The warmth of a dying sun
I’ve been lucky enough to share the stage with Employed to Serve a few times over the last couple of years and they always impress with their intensity and passion. this album was just their live show captured on record. Well deserving of the praise it’s been earning in magazines and top 10 lists everywhere
Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes – Modern Ruin
Sleezy punk rock with all the swagger you’d expect from Frank. classic follow up album that just turns everything before it up to 10
Glassjaw – Material Control
15 years in the making and well worth the wait. I’ve been a Glassjaw fan for as long as I can remember and for them to be back and releasing music that’s still relevant and genuinely fun to listen to. Hopefully get to hear it live one day (hint hint Daryl)
Less Art – Strangled Light
Members of Thrice and Curl Up & Die forming a band together that sounds nothing like Thrice and Curl Up & Die.
Awesome post-rock with sludge and noise that keeps getting a replay whenever I get a chance.
Lo! – Vestigial
Just a terrifying slab of fast heavy nonsense crafted to perfection. Played with these guys when the album came out in the tiniest practice room in Hulland their intensity just blew me away. Love this album. Love this band!
Manchester Orchestra – A black mile to the surface
One of the best bands I saw Live this year. Absolutely mesmerising post-rock music. This albums automatically makes me smile every time I hear it. Plus the vinyl is beautiful, so that helps with my record addiction…
Mutoid Man – War Moans
This one snuck in right at the end of the year. Manchester Orchestra might be the best band I’ve seen this year but I think Mutoid Man are the best band I’ve seen ever! This album is just another slice of pure gold. Unsurprising considering it’s Cave In and Converge members (Also YAY to the rumours of a Cave In reunion)
